Tiered Skirt

I made a skirt for Jo one night before we headed to the beach.
I was planning on making a two layered simple skirt,
but ended up with three fabrics that I really liked.
I then went for the peasant-style skirt. I used tutorials found here and here.
It took me longer than I would have liked (who wants to do algebra when sewing??),
but I am happy with the result!

A few more from the beach

Sweet Legs

We're at the beach, and Jo got a lot of mosquito bites on her
sweet little legs, ankles and arms.
You can be lifting her up that they would heal quickly and not bother her.
She was pitiful tonight as we put her to sleep.
I guess the mosquitos know sweet when they see it.

Tomato Chicken Salad

My mom shared a recipe with me for a yummy spin on chicken salad.
It doesn't have any mayo in it, which is a major plus for me,
and all the ingredients are readily available here.

1 lemon
2 lb. Tomatoes halved or chopped
3 cups chopped cooked chicken
1 large cucumber sliced
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup sliced green onion
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
2 tblsp. Olive oil
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper
1/2 cup crumbed feta cheese

Grate zest from lemon to equal 2 tsp., squeeze juice from lemon to equal 2 tbsp. Combine lemon zest, juice, tomatoes, and next 8 ingredients in a large bowl. Let stand 10 minutes. Toss with crumbled feta just before serving.

The Bakery

We have a friend that owns a bakery here in town,
and Joanna loves going to visit him. I can't imagine why, can you?
We always leave with a doggie bag full of cookies, cakes and baklava.
And a juice box for Joanna.

This is him with Josh and Leyla.

Precious 2 Month Old

I can't believe our baby is 2 months old already!
I am loving the baby stage, and trying to savor every moment.
I know I may be biased but Leyla is just the sweetest, happiest little thing.

We haven't really put her on a sleep schedule during the day.
She is eating about every 3 hours and in-between feedings
she sleeps a little and looks around and smiles a little and sleeps again.
It's hard to want to put her on a nap schedule
when she's so happy without one.
At night she has been going somewhere
between 6-9 hours between feedings lately.
She spits up, but not to the degree that Jo did when she was a baby.

Joanna is really coming into big sister hood.
She takes good care of her little sister and hasn't offered to give her away yet.
Here a lot of people ask Joanna if they can take Leyla home and
she generally gets a pouty face on and says, "she's mine".
And since the picture above doesn't have sound,
I'll leave you with a video of Jo telling you what Leyla sounds like.

Any Guesses?

Any guesses on what happened to my belt?
I noticed it as I was taking it off the other night.

Joanna has been loving letters lately.
She has a game that she plays on the computer with them,
and I think it has really helped her recognize them.
Her original favorite letters were O and W.
She can pretty much recognize those anywhere.
We very often hear, "Look! There's an O!"
Lately she has been into L, J, M and N.
They are really hit or miss though.

I printed out a worksheet for her and was so proud of how she did with the O.
She did all these by herself.

Then we moved to the W.
The W's that don't look like O's are the ones I helped her with :).

Then we worked on another O worksheet.
The O's got bigger and bigger and wilder and wilder.

It has been fun to see her little brain learning new things!

This one's for the Granparents

I'm sure no one but the grandparents would find this video interesting.
Leyla doesn't do much at this point, but we are pretty glad that's the case.
She's been quite the content baby.
We are very thankful for this little blessing!
